The search for a missing Surrey man who had not been seen since New Year's Day came to a sad end Saturday when his body was found in a wooded area.
Kevin Fry, 20, was heard from on Jan. 1 at his Guildford-area home. Surrey RCMP said he had no known mental health or addiction issues. His disappearance was unusual because he was not known to drop contact with his family, police said earlier this month.
Fry's family and friends had organized two search groups for this weekend. It was one of those groups that found Fry's frozen body in a secluded wooded area, RCMP confirmed to The Province. Police estimate Fry's body was there for about two weeks.
"I would like to thank all those that went on the search yesterday, for your efforts were not fruitless, but had tangible, although unfortunate results," read a message on Sunday posted to a Facebook group, "Let's Bring Kevin Fry Home."
"To all those that had Kevin in their thoughts and prayers, from the bottom of my heart I want to thank you. I am asking everyone who can contact the Fry family, not to do so, but to allow them their time of grief and sorrow in peace and quiet, to allow them to come to terms with this horrific news in each others arms."
Thirteen years ago, in February 2000, Fry's father Glenn disappeared after leaving his house for work, reported CBC News. He has never been located.
