FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. - Two people, including an RCMP officer, are expected to make a full recovery after a two-vehicle collision on a treacherous section of a northern Alberta highway.

Mounties say the male officer was on duty and driving a police pickup truck when it collided late Tuesday night with another pickup on Highway 881, south of Fort McMurray.

Both drivers were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

No one else was hurt.

Const. Christina Wilkins, an RCMP spokeswoman, says the road where the accident happened was very slippery due to ice and packed snow.

Police closed the highway for several hours while they investigated the crash.
