RED DEER, Alta. - The former chairman of the 1998 Alberta Winter Games has been handed an eight month jail sentence for sexual assault.

Thomas Ganger will also spend three years on probation following his release.

The 65-year-old was found guilty of sexual assault following a trial last September.

Ganger was convicted of making an unwanted sexual advance on a now 30-year-old man in January 2011 after the two had been drinking together at a trade show in Red Deer.

The judge said while this was not a "major" sexual assault, it was still disturbing and embarrassing for the victim.
