ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - It will be a bit longer before Newfoundland and Labrador's offshore oil regulator makes a final decision on the resumption of helicopter night flights to and from the province's offshore.

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board is reviewing additional information provided by offshore oil operators.

Night flights were suspended as a result of the Wells Inquiry into offshore helicopter safety following the crash of Cougar Flight 491 in March 2009.

The operators provided the regulator with a report last fall, supporting their request to resume night flights.

The offshore board responded with a request for further information.

The regulator says that information has been submitted and is being reviewed before a final decision is made.
