The NHL announced on its official website on Saturday that the illegal hit to the head call assessed to the Backes during the third period of a game in Detroit against the Red Wings would be reversed.
Backes nailed Detroit defenceman Kent Huskins, which the referees deemed to be illegal contact to the head, ejecting the forward. But replays of the incident appeared to show there was no clear shoulder-to-head contact.
Red Wings sniper Pavel Datsyuk scored what turned out to be the deciding goal on the ensuing five-minute man advantage in Detroit's 5-3 win.
Backes has one goal and five assists in eight games so far.
