Burned body identified as missing Châteauguay man

Quebec provincial police said they have identified the body of a missing Châteauguay man two years after he went missing.

The body was found burning on the side of Route 155, in Grand-Piles, north of Trois-Rivières, in February 2011.

Using DNA evidence, police have now been able to identify the body as 38-year-old Collin Anthony Williams.

The man had gone missing two days earlier.

Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Éloïse Cossette says the delay in identifying the body is not unusual.

She says the body was identified after the victim's DNA was added to a police bank.

"When someone is reported missing, it is not all the time that we take in DNA sample for that person, because sometimes we don't need to bank the DNA and we will find the person," he said.

Cossette says Williams was not known to police.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the SQ.
