Vancouver now has a database of the city's worst rentals to help tenants make "informed decisions."

The Rental Standards Database, which went live on Wednesday, lists buildings, addresses, property owners and issues related to maintenance and safety. It also shows which problems have been dealt with to the city's satisfaction.

The Marble Arch Hotel at 518 Richards St. is the city's worst place to rent, according to the database. It recorded 141 issues including 120 outstanding building maintenance matters as of October 2012.

The building is owned by the Provincial Rental Housing Corporation and is currently being renovated.

A building at 561 East Hastings St. in the Downtown Eastside has 133 issues, the second-most in the city.

More than 70,000 units are part of the city database including single room occupancy hotels (SROs), dedicated rental housing and social housing.

It does not include strata buildings or secondary suites.

"The overwhelming majority of landlords in Vancouver are responsible and treat their tenants with respect, and many of the properties included in the database are for minor infractions," Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson said in a statement.
