Mayor's Office

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford took time on Wednesday to explore the Toronto Sportsmen's Show and Toronto's press corp got to see a different side of the mayor.

Ford looked like he had fun catching trout at the show's indoor pond, shooting a pellet gun and even while handling a number of animals.

Of course all of these fun moments were captured by smartphone toting press corps.

CP24's Chris Fox writes that the mayor looked at ease catching a rainbow trout. He later released the fish.

The mayor also got some target practice in. But of course, it was the animals that stole the show.

Ford expressed a bit of reluctance to handle Blossom, a possum, and Petunia, a skunk but got a lot friendlier with Alexandra, an owl.

Global's Jackson Proskow captured a great Vine video of the mayor handling the owl, which showed off its pretty impressive wing span.

The National Post's Natalie Alcoba also reported that the owl and Mayor Ford may have even built a bit of a rapport.

"She certainly didn’t want to get off his fist, so I think there was some goo goo eyes going on here,” Mark Nash, executive director of the Canadian Peregrine Foundation told the National Post.
