'Year In Canada' Video Could Be Tourism Ad (VIDEO)

Aussie's Video Could Be Canada Tourism Ad

An Australian's video documenting every day he spent in Canada for a year is so pretty it could pass for a tourism ad.

Scott McInnes, a film student who is originally from Sydney, packed up his "entire life" in a suitcase and flew to Vancouver on Feb. 4, 2012. He took footage every day for "A Year In Canada," a video that shows him in locations such as Vancouver, Whistler, Calgary, the Rockies and Toronto.

"This was my first year out of uni, so I figured I'd head out into the world in search of adventure and new horizons. It seems like that is something a lot of young 20-somethings do, especially in Australia," he told The Huffington Post B.C. on Thursday.

McInnes first lived in Vancouver but moved to Toronto when he couldn't find work. Along the way he wanted to keep his photography skills sharp, so he took footage with a toy in different locations every day.

"A frame a day is a tough task," he said. "We all have days when we just can't get out of bed, so to have a voice in your head saying, 'C'mon, get up, you have to go stick tiny, magnetic, acrobatic robots to the side of a ferry' is an interesting sort of motivator."

The video begins with a Cookie Monster doll at the Peace Arch border crossing, and then moves to other recognizable Vancouver landmarks including Rogers Arena, the Olympic cauldron, the Gastown Steam Clock and English Bay.

After Cookie Monster, McInnes features an inukshuk, a teddy bear and character from the TV show "Dr. Who" to document his trip. The toys are also seen in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood and the Kensington Market.

McInnes remains in Canada, working for a film production company in Toronto.
