Melanie Fiona, 2013 Grammys: Canadian Singer's Putting 'Best Work' Up Against Beyonce

Grammys: Canadian Melanie Fiona Putting Her 'Best Work' Up Against Beyonce

While the Biebermaniacs continue to seethe with rage over the singer's Grammy Awards snub, another Canadian musician, Melanie Fiona, will be in good company when the awards show takes place Sunday, Feb. 10.

Fiona is a legit R&B star south of the border with five Grammy nominations and two wins already in her career. Her 2013 nomination is in the Best Traditional R&B Performance category for "Wrong Side Of A Love Song."

She's understandably proud of her nominated song.

"This one is very special, the song 'Wrong Side Of A Love Song' is I think my best work as an artist to date, my best writing, my best vocal performance, my best live performance," she told the Canadian Press in a video interview. "And I think my most vulnerable and storytelling."

For Fiona, the nomination is proof she's doing the right thing.

"It's a very nice humbling reminder you're doing the right thing," she says. "What you're doing is respected and it's good."

Whether she wins on Sunday or not? She's not sweating that considering some of the names she's up against.

"It would be nice to take home the award for sure, but just to know that it made it to the top five elite of this category and I'm in there with people like Beyonce and Anita Baker," she says. "That's a victory in itself for me."
