Although Canadians began to bid farewell to the penny this week, they can welcome a new glow-in-the-dark coin.
The quarter is the second instalment in the Royal Canadian Mint's four-coin 'Prehistoric Creature' series. It features the Quetzalcoatlus, a pterodactyloid pterosaur from the Late Cretaceous period. It was "a large, lightweight reptile with a long, stiff neck, a sharp bill, and a wingspan of up to 10 metres," according to the Mint's website.
Like Canada's first glow-in-the-dark coin released last April, which featured the Pachyrhinosaurus lacustai, it reveals the creature's skeleton when it is exposed to light for 30 to 60 seconds, and then viewed in the dark.
It can be yours for $29.95 CAD. A maximum 30,000 will be produced, and there's a limit of three per household.
