NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO -- Police say an elderly man has died in Niagara Falls after shovelling snow, the second such incident after Friday's massive storm.

Niagara Regional Police Staff Sgt. Dave Brennan says an ambulance was called to a home in the city's south end Saturday morning when an 80-year-old man collapsed while clearing snow.

He says the man was rushed to Greater Niagara General Hospital, where he later died.

Brennan says the hospital determined the man died from physical exertion while shovelling snow.

The death comes after the Hamilton Paramedic Services found an 80-year-old woman dead Friday morning after she collapsed while clearing snow from her driveway in Hamilton.

There were also two reported deaths on snowed-out roads Friday.

Police say a 49-year-old Oshawa man was killed in a multi-vehicle collision in Pickering, east of Toronto.

A 57-year-old Ottawa man was also killed that day when his car crashed during blizzard conditions on Highway 401 near Prescott.

The snow storm dumped up to 40 centimetres of snow in southern Ontario on Friday, before skies mostly cleared for the rest of the weekend, resulting in postcard-worthy winter conditions.

There could be more treacherous conditions on roads and sidewalks heading into the start of the week.

Environment Canada is warning that freezing rain could hit much of southern Ontario, starting Sunday night in Waterloo up to the Bruce Peninsula and then heading to the province's east end by Monday morning.
