MORRIS, Man. - An MLA who has represented the Manitoba constituency of Morris for almost 10 years says she is leaving politics.

Mavis Taillieu (TAHL'-yew) was first elected as a Progressive Conservative in 2003 and again in 2007 and 2011.

Taillieu, who is 60, was given critic duties for several portfolios over the years and also served as Opposition house leader and caucus whip.

Taillieu says she wants to focus on her family and her health, and mentor her two sons who are forming a business venture.

Tory Leader Brian Pallister has called on Premier Greg Selinger to call a byelection for Morris as soon as possible.
