Mission RCMP Dog Bite Probed By Police Watchdog

Posted: Updated:

SURREY, B.C. - British Columbia's Independent Investigations Office has launched an investigation into an RCMP arrest after reviewing the suspect's medical records.

The man was taken into custody in Mission, B.C., after being bitten by a police dog Feb. 4.

His injuries needed medical attention and the IIO said it decided to assert its jurisdiction in the investigation after the office read the medical records.

RCMP say the man raced away from a police traffic stop and was later seen abandoning his vehicle and taking off on foot.

The man was chased down about 20 minutes later with the help of a police dog.

The IIO says it was notified shortly after the incident, and then later decided the incident was serious enough to investigate.
