Explosion, fire kill 2 in northeastern B.C.

A Valentine's Day explosion and fire has left two people dead in a trailer park in northeastern B.C., RCMP reported Sunday.

Emergency crews responded to 911 calls on Feb. 14 just after 10 p.m. MT that reported a trailer was engulfed in flames following a large explosion at the Southridge Trailer Park in Fort St. John, RCMP said in release.

"A neighbour attempted to gain entry to the residence to assist any occupants. However, due to the intense flames and heat, he was unable to enter," said Cpl. Kate Bamber.

"Police can confirm that two deceased persons have been located inside the residence and police are currently working to positively identify these victims."

Fire department personnel and the BC Coroner’s Service are investigating.
