Surrey RCMP are investigating the death of a teen who collapsed on a party bus over the weekend.

Ernest Azoadam, 16, was found unconscious when the bus pulled into at a gas station on Friday night, reported The Province.

Azoadam's best friend Walden Ash told the newspaper that the bus picked them up at Burnsview Secondary in North Delta on Friday at around 9:45 p.m. The bus pulled up at a Chevron station about 45 minutes later.

Azoadam was reportedly dancing on the bus when it stopped and he collapsed. Friends took him out of the bus and paramedics tried to revive him, the newspaper reported.

Alcohol was found on the bus but the cause of death is not yet known, the Surrey RCMP said in a news release on Monday. The RCMP will be investigating to see if there were any criminal, liquor or motor vehicle infractions. Foul play is not suspected, said police.

RCMP spokesman Bert Paquet said that police have had to get involved with party buses in the past, but "never with such tragic consequences."

"Unfortunately when you mix groups of young people with alcohol in a confined place for several hours it is often just a matter time before police are called," he said in a news release.
