Can someone check. Is this her apartment or a taxpayer owned unit? Do we fund her travel to NYC.

The entertaining aspect of issues such as this is the inability of many to do a basic search online and research the actual rules of the upper house.
If only for their own benifit.
Many instead choose to follow the lead of obviously biased parties whos opinions mesh with their own and rant.
My feelings are most of the individuals involved in this senate expense/ residency scandal will be exhonerated of any wrong doing.
Leaving room of course for some minor infractions due to some misinterpretation of the rules.
Brazeau may prove to be the exception.
For a host of reasons.
Knowledge is power.
Why not 'arm' yourself.

Well, look at who is doing the exoneration, fellow senators... sort of like hiring wolves to check if the wolves are stealing from the hen house isn't it...

What a nothing story.
But then what else would you expect from the Red Star.
Except that I'm disapointed in the HuffPost to have given it any real estate on it's own web site.

This may be what she does while in New York, on your taxpayer dollar too!

According to Senator Wallin's website her background identifies her work in New York.
The Honourable Pamela Wallin, O.C., S.O.M. was appointed to the Senate of Canada on December 22, 2008. She is Chair of the Senate's National Security & Defence Committee, serves on both the Veterans Affairs subcommittee and theSenate's Foreign Affairs & International Trade Committee .
She serves on several corporate boards, including Gluskin Sheff & Associates and Porter Airlines. Pamela is also a member of a special Advisory Board for BMO Harris Bank.
Pamela was Consul General of Canada in New York from 2002-2006.
She continues her work as the Senior Advisor on Canada-US relations at the Americas Society and the Council of the Americas in New York.

"Pamela Wallin, Conservative senator, owns bachelor apartment in New York City."

I had no idea that was illegal... witch hunt in full progress...

If she didn't hide her expenses from the public (this hols for all MPs and Senators actually), maybe the public wouldn't assume she's guilty.. after all Toews and Harper have on many occasions implied that folks who try and hide things are likely guilty... why are you upset that folks are following Harper's lead on this?
02:00 PM on 02/20/2013
Did Senators reveal their expenses before Harper became Prime Minister? Let's get the expenses of all Senators released. Reporting that she owns a condo inNew York is irrelevant. What if she travels to New York on legitimate business and decides to stay at her condo instead of a hotel? Is that a "gotcha" moment?
02:14 PM on 02/20/2013
And if she isn't required to make her expenses public she isn't hiding anything. This is a problem with the government, not Wallin. Did the previous Liberal government make Senators publish their expense claims or is this just another "tradition" of government to hide their wasteful use of taxpayer's money?

It has nothing to do with her travel expenses, much as I have little respect for her or her cronies.

If she was to start pleading poverty, that would be different.

This is irrelevant in my opinion. I suspect that a bachelor suite in NY is a good investment. And regardless of standing as a senator we do not need to know all of the details of her life or all of her investments.

LOL, yah, trust her... yah, that's the ticket... no, she and Harper don't want to do the right thing and put her expenses as well as all the other Senators and MPs expenses in the public domain... as such, they are trying to hide things, and as such examining her finances in more detail is indeed the correct democratic response...

"Information is the lifeblood of a democracy. Without adequate access to key information about government policies and programs, citizens and parliamentarians cannot make informed decisions, and incompetent or corrupt governance can be hidden under a cloak of secrecy."

Stephen Harper Montreal Gazette 2005

"When a government starts trying to cancel dissent or avoid dissent is frankly when it's rapidly losing its moral authority to govern."

I absolutely agree with so many of your points, especially the ones that point out the hypocracy of the conservative PM Harper. However, somethings like a condo she bought when she was working in NY is no ones business unless there is some connection between this and the tax payers dollar. Otherwise its like the cabin owned by Clement... well okay not that one, because is on one of the few remaining protected lakes.... so its like the cabin MacKay owns.... okay maybe not the one he gets army helicopter rides to and from......

Make all expense claims public - the senators, MPs, MPPs, mayors, councillors, school trustees, Ornge, all going back to 1980. That should be fun.
