The shooting took place outside Musik night club on Feb. 10, when a large group of men got into an altercation in the parking lot. Shots were fired and Naveed Shahnawaz, 19, of Brampton, Ont. was shot and suffered life-threatening injuries.
He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Feb. 15, police said.
Toronto Police announced on Thursday that Tony Hoang Dinh, 18, of Toronto now faces charges of first-degree murder, upgraded from attempted murder.
He was originally charged on Feb. 11 with two counts of attempted murder. He was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm and several other gun-related charges.
Dinh was scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Thursday morning.
Another Toronto man, 19, faces charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and assault with a weapon and a third Toronto man, 26, was charged with assault.
The shooting occurred when patrons were leaving the nightclub and got into an altercation in the parking lot, according to the Special Investigations Unit.
One man with a gun opened fire. Two people were wounded and a third person was injured, but not by gunfire.
After responding and arriving on scene, police officers discharged their firearms at a Honda Accord as it left the area.
The SIU is investigating. The unit probes all incidents involving police in which death or serious injury occur, or when allegations of sexual assault are raised.Suggest a correction
