Avalanche kills skier near Revelstoke, B.C.

A skier has been killed by an avalanche in an out of bounds area near B.C.'s Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

The avalanche happened Friday afternoon while the victim was skiing with four friends in the Greely Lake area.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said three people in the group were buried in the slide.

The remaining skiers managed to rescue two of those buried. By the time they located the third skier, he had already died.

Revelstoke RCMP and the Revelstoke Search and Rescue team anticipate recovering the skier's body on Saturday.

The Canadian Avalanche Centre had upgraded the avalanche risk to 'high' for alpine and treeline mountain regions throughout most of B.C. Friday.
