Victoria police are investigating a drive-by shooting early this morning that left one person in hospital in stable condition.

The shooting happened outside the Strathcona Hotel just after 1 a.m. PT.

“There were multiple shots fired and one person was hit, an adult male, and he’s in stable condition in hospital,” said Staff Sgt. Kerry Panton.

A vehicle, similar in description to the one used in the shooting, was found a short time later along with a weapon believed to have been used in the shooting.

A woman believed to be associated with the shooting was taken into custody but the shooter has not been arrested.

Panton says it is too early to say whether the shooting is related to gang activity, adding drive-by shootings are rare in Victoria.

“It is definitely quite rare, especially multiple shots fired. It’s obviously very concerning.”

The 900 block of Douglas Street is closed to traffic while police investigate.
