Morale among B.C. Liberals has taken another hit after Premier Christy Clark's deputy chief of staff quit Friday.
"Today, I accepted the resignation of Kim Haakstad," said Clark in a news statement. "Kim reached her decision after much consideration of her roles and responsibilities."
Haakstad will not be receiving severance pay.
On Wednesday, B.C. NDP leaked documents detailing an outreach strategy orchestrated by government staffers to win ethnic notes in May's upcoming provincial election.
The 17-page memo was sent from Haakstad to eight people. It detailed plans to handle ethnic media and to identify and correct historical wrongs like Komagata Maru incident from May 1914.

The Libs are no longer using the "Christie Clark" label on their stuff - I never could figure out how the party allowed itself to be bamboozled by her and her handlers into voting her in as party leader. On the good side of all of this, her hamfisted leadership has enabled a lot more people to see how badly the Libs have governed, how corrupt they are and how little they have done for the people of BC. The list of bad decisions reaches from shore to mountains:
* a secret deal to sell BC Rail then millions spent in legal fees to cover up their criminal corruption in the bidding process and continuing to pay the BC Rail board millions for several years while they did absolutely nothing!;
* privatizing the ferries and paying millions to the inept crowd now running the ferry system into bankruptcy;
* HST - secret agreement with Harper, forced it down our throats, and have dragged their feet for 2 years to remove it, even after a vote - no respect for the public's voice at all;
* handing over more millions of our money for bridges that are improperly built, and millions more for Olympic highways that only benefit the big money crowd up at Whistler;
* cutting out services to families with sick and disabled children while wasting $2 million on "family day" nonsense.
And that's what I can recall after just a first cup of coffee!

A dishonest lot with a dishonest history going back in a line all the way back to Bennet . Social Credit flim flam supported by the good folks of BC being herded like sheep but voting for this lot for years .
Free enterprise for this lot has always been the freedom to line their pockets and the pockets of freinds
with the rich resources of this province

they were used as guinea pigs by the political element wanting to challenge British Empire immigration/transmigration regs.......the flip side of the story, often not heard in p.c. accounts, is how the citizens of Vancouver rallied to help those on board with food and medical aid.....

The staffer is taking the fall. The fact remains Ms. Clark knew about this and as Premier, had to. If she didn't, she's incompetent because she doesn't even know what her office is up to.
So, which is it, is Clark lying and letting her staffer take the heat, or is she incompetent?
Its one or the other!
Will_Webster: The staffer is taking the fall. The fact remains Ms.
I was going to leave a scathing comment, but decided to take the high road (if there is one over this issue). It wasn't the staffer. That's all I have to say (for now).
I'm feeling liike a person who says, "Don't get me started)!

Christie Cluck is stuffed! Like this is all news to her and it was all cooked up by her subordinates in their personal blackberrys and PCs. It is sooooo good. Even Dog shzt smells better than the wiff coming out of the Provincial Librerals since forever.

The very same Kim Haakstad that a Basi memo (vis a vis BC Rail scandal) accused of having close ties to lobby group for one of the bidders, also Cynthia Haraldson implicated along with her.
Given what the harper regime has done to ensure the votes of minorities look at all the appologies he made, under duress I'm sure, and I think that " how to " list or directive is the clone of the one harper used.

Dumb, dum dum dum, duuuummmmmbbb!!,..you know, methinks this kind of thing is why real,smart! people dont get involved in politics in b.latant c.orruption, they/we? dont want to be tagged at the same level as these room temp IQ,s that squabble and bicker [and corrupt] their way to the big chair,..I for one, dont think an "election" is going to cut it, this time!,,fact is, there is no one! to vote for, no ethics, no integrity, no honour and certainly no real justice,..I for one truly do wish this were not the case, truly!, .. but facts is facts, and what we see and hear does absolutly nothing to correct the impression that b.latant c.orruption is very well named,,Dare is say? we need a person with all the above and! some real "stones" to stand up and wring some lugs,clean up the smells,and get the job done,,It wont be "nice", or easy, and it surely aint some kind of popularity contest, but with a 2 year mandate and some real powers?, it can! be done,,first year will be somewhat messy, but after that we can expect some real results instead of these "smoke and mirror" scammers and skimmers playing our country for personal gains,,I am ashamed! to be a Canadian at this time,, I dont like it, but there it is,,,ASHAMED!,..and I dont think I am alone in this, not at all! at all!!,..

Great comment - so true. I feel exactly the same way. I looked up the word DECENT in the dictionary and it says "Conforming with generally accepted standards of respectable or moral behavior." We need a DECENT politician with common sense for once. Sadly the ones in office lack this most important virtue.
nightinggale: Great comment - so true. I feel exactly the same
I predicted a dump Christy movement on these very pages last year but now it is too little too late. The 'coup' plotters should have done a better job of marshaling their resources at least six months ago.

I am not schooled in politics but I figured she was set up from the start. Who would want to follow Gordon Campbell? Anyone could predict the Liberals are going to lose the next election. She was a very convenient fall guy. This does not absovle her from her misadventures as Premier.

She campaigned her guts out for the job. She set herself up.
Bubble thinking combined with arrogance convinced her(self) that she could overcome the hole that the HST and BC Rail debacles left on the public palate.
The knives are out within the party for her because the purpose of a political party is to forge a team to win an election and attain/retain power. Something that was impossible for her to do from the start. Sadly she could not see the truth of this.

The Liberals corporate backers can still pull off a win. All they need to do is throw $millions more at this. Keep those attack ads coming, your pals at glowball and the other so called news fluffers are waiting for the buckets of cash.

I really think that their campaign tune should be taken from the old Freddy Mercury "Queen" repertoire...
