Don Cherry calls Sabres' Patrick Kaleta a 'cheap shot artist'

Don Cherry likes to see hockey played with a little sandpaper.

But he didn't like Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta's hit on New York Rangers centre Brad Richards on Sunday night.

The Coach's Corner commentator voiced his displeasure with the Sabres tough guy on Twitter Monday, just hours after the NHL announced Kaleta was suspended five games for boarding the Rangers star.

"Buffalo's Kaleta got 5 games for running NYR's Richards," he tweeted. "If ever a guy should get 5 games for anything it's this guy. He's a guy who runs...

"Around sticking and backstabbing and not dropping the gloves to back it up. I must say he is a cheap shot artist."

Kaleta was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct on the play, which happened at 3:28 of the third period of Buffalo's 3-2 shootout loss.

He is no stranger to suspensions either.

The five-foot-11, 198-pound winger has been banned from games on two prior separate occasions in his seven-year career, including a four-game suspension for head-butting in 2011.
