IIO investigates after man seriously injured in RCMP foot chase

B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office is looking into an incident after a man was seriously injured during a RCMP foot chase in Prince George early Friday morning.

The province’s police watchdog says an RCMP officer arrived at an Upland Street apartment building around 12:05 a.m. PT in response to a complaint.

The officer saw a man leaving the scene on foot and pursued him. During the chase, police say the man was seriously injured after falling eight metres down an embankment.

He was transported by ambulance to hospital where he remains.

A team of four investigators from the IIO will arrive in Prince George Friday afternoon.
