Coroner IDs man who crashed into Special Olympics bus

The BC Coroners Service has identified the driver who died after his car collided with a bus chartered by Special Olympics Canada near Cache Creek last week.

Allen Edward Power, 24, of Sorrento, was killed in the head-on crash on Highway 1, about 15 km east of Cache Creek, at about 3:30 p.m. PT on Mar. 1.

Of the 23 athletes and staff on the chartered bus, 16 were taken to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops with minor injuries.

Police said initially that there were indications that Power may have crossed the highway's centre line.

BC RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are continuing to investigate the collision.
