Rookie Mistake Leads To Cruiser In Nanaimo Yard

An RCMP constable in Nanaimo may be displined for crashing his cruiser into the fence of a residential home Sunday.

Witnesses say that around 2 p.m. PT, the constable was chasing two speeding motorcyclists.

He hit the curb, lost control, hit a tree and crashed into a fence.

Nanaimo RCMP Cpl. Norm Smith says it was a rookie mistake on the part of the constable.

"He's a junior member and, unfortunately, this is a junior-member error. We've all made those types error in our career," Smith said.

No one was injured besides the constable, who only sustained minor cuts and bruises.

Smith says a collision analyst is investigating, and the force is looking into the circustances around the crash.

Once the case has been reviewed, the constable may have to undergo remedial training or futher discpline.
