With Osheaga, NXNE, Hillside, the inaugural Toronto Urban Roots Festival and others planned for Canada's music festival season this summer, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is getting ahead of the curve by creating their own simply called the CBCMusic.ca festival in late May.

Sam Roberts Band, Kathleen Edwards, Icelandic group Of Monsters And Men and Sloan are some of the artists confirmed for the one-day event slated for Toronto's Echo Beach on May 25. Other artists slated to perform include Corb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertans, singer-songwriter Jarvis Church, Montreal's Half Moon Run, Nunavik singer Elisapie, Aidan Knight, Kae Sun and blues/jazz singer Shakura S'Aida. Doors open for the day-long festival at 2 p.m.

The festival will also feature a live edition of the CBC program The Debaters hosted by comedian Steve Patterson and special guest appearances throughout the day including Q's Jian Ghomeshi.

Tickets are $59.50 plus service charges and go on sale Saturday (March 16) at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster, Rotate This, Soundscapes or charge by phone at 1-888-985-5000. A special pre-sale will take place beginning on Friday (March 15) at 10 a.m. with more information available at the festival's site.

News of the festival comes the morning after Montreal's Osheaga festival announced its line-up headlined by The Cure, Mumford & Sons and Phoenix.
