FREDERICTON - The premier of New Brunswick says a new process will be introduced for the selection of officers of the legislature, such as the ombudsman.

Other positions include the child and youth advocate, conflict of interest commissioner and official languages commissioner.

David Alward says once people apply for the positions, a committee of senior officials from the legislative process, academia and the legal community will evaluate their credentials.

He says the committee will then provide him with the qualified names.

Alward says he would consult with the leader of the Opposition before making recommendations to the legislative assembly.
