Officers responded to the Whalley home after receiving a call from a concerned neighbour on Monday around 5 p.m. PT, Surrey RCMP said.
Police found the woman dead when they arrived and believe a domestic dispute was involved, Insp. Dan Splinter said.
"The early indication is that the death is a tragic result of family violence," he said.
The regional homicide unit took over the case, and for most of the evening the street was blocked off with police tape.
A police canine unit was brought in to sniff out nearby properties and investigators went door-to-door, checking to see if anyone heard or saw anything.
At one point a distraught young woman told officers her mother lived in the fourplex. It's not known if she was in fact related to the victim.
Neighbours told CBC News there had once been trouble on the street involving alleged drug dealing and, recently, a man being shot in the leg. But the house where the woman was found dead was one of the quieter homes on the block.
The homicide unit said it would provide more details late Tuesday morning.Suggest a correction
