In downtown Vancouver, Davie Street was closed between Denman and Bidwell streets overnight after winds blew some glass from a construction site down on Wednesday evening. The street was reopened around 7:30 a.m. PT Thursday morning.
At the peak of the storm on Wednesday evening more than 25,000 people on Vancouver Island and more than 7,000 people in Metro Vancouver were without electricity, according to BC Hydro.
In the Lower Mainland, the outages were concentrated around Surrey, White Rock and Langley. By 9 p.m. PT, power had been restored in many areas leaving about 6,000 people on Vancouver Island and about 3,500 people without power.
In West Vancouver, police closed down part of Bellevue Avenue because winds had blown scaffolding loose, and in Vancouver at Granville Street and 33rd Avenue, a fallen tree took down trolley bus wires.
