Homicide is suspected in the death of Rachel Pernosky, a B.C. mother whose body was found four days after mysteriously disappearing.

Pernosky, 18, of Mission was last seen just after midnight on Saturday, reported the RCMP. She left her purse and cellphone at home and missed a visit with her one-year-old son.

On Tuesday, someone walking in Chilliwack spotted Pernosky's body in a steep embankment, said the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team in a Wednesday news release.

"Due to evidence retrieved thus far it is clear that Rachel was the victim of a homicide," said Sgt. Jennifer Pound. Investigators are waiting for the results of an autopsy to confirm how she died.

RCMP had said they didn't suspect foul play, but family and friends were worried as she had no history of running away. An avid Facebook and Twitter user, her accounts had not been touched since her disappearance.

Pernosky's son is being cared for by his father, who police have ruled out as a suspect, reported Global TV.

On Wednesday, a Facebook page set up to find Pernosky turned into a site of mourning. "We did our best," posted Brittany Pernosky.

"My heart goes out to [Rachel's] family and friends. I am so sorry it was not the ending we were all praying for. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all," wrote another woman.
