An RCMP dive team was able to enter the van and recover the body at 1 p.m. PT Thursday from the vehicle, which was submerged about 40 metres underwater near the Gabriola Island ferry terminal.
Police said the woman was from Gabriola Island, but her family has asked that her name not be released.
The van had sped down a BC Ferries dock, crashed through a chain link fence, sped across a tied-up ferry and launched off the other end into the ocean, before sinking at about 3:45 a.m. PT on Wednesday.
Experts recovered the vehicle on Thursday by using air lift bags to float it to the surface.
As of 2:30 p.m. PT, BC Ferries said normal ferry service has resumed.
