The incident happened at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday on a southbound train, while the train was stopped at a red signal.
This comes just days after a series of delays plagued Monday's evening commute — including doors opening unexpectedly on a stationary train in a tunnel near Dupont Station — prompted a rare apology from the commission this week.
On Thursday, a trainee guard who was manning the doors opened them for reasons “we need to better understand” while five of the cars were in the tunnel, and the sixth was on the platform, TTC spokesman Brad Ross said.
After the doors opened, the power was cut and the tracks were checked. The power was later restored, and the train resumed its journey with nine minutes, the TTC said.
“We take safety very, very seriously, so we have to take a close look at this,” said Ross.
“It wasn’t a good morning and certainly wasn’t a good week,” said Ross.
The train involved was an older train, which will be retired soon, said Ross. However, this morning’s issue had nothing to do with the train – it was pure human error, he said.
Ticket collectors arrested
Late Thursday afternoon Toronto police issued a news release announcing the arrest of two ticket collectors.
Both men are accused of taking money from customers and not turning it over to the TTC.
Thursday's incidents also come less than a month after the TTC announced a customer charter, a series of 30 promises aimed at improving service and keeping customers informed about service delays.
