Canadian Music Week's marquee CMW event, The Indies, took place Friday night with Japandroids snagging best album for "Celebration Rock," Deadmau5 winning best live act and Metric taking home best group and best-selling independent album, "Synthetica."

But Vancouver pop-rockers Marianas Trench emerged as the big winners of the night with three awards: Video of the Year for "Fallout" and Pop Artist or Group of the Year while lead singer and songwriter Josh Ramsay also took home the Songwriter of the Year award. The latter was partly thanks to his co-write credit on Carly Rae Jepsen's smash "Call Me Maybe," which was also a notable winner, nabbing the awards for Most Played Independent Artist or Group of the Year as well as Single of the Year.

Both Jepsen and Marianas Trench also won big at the Canadian Radio Music Awards, which were handed out earlier in the week and featured performances from Marianas Trench, Massari and USS.

Toronto's Metric headlined the Indies by performing hits from their most recent album, "Synthetica," at the Kool Haus, where the annual awards show was moved to in order to handle the band's massive hometown following.

Many of the other performers also scored awards, including Cold Specks (Female Artist of the Year), Matt Mays (Male Artist of the Year), The Wooden Sky (Folk/Roots Artist or Group of the Year), Yukon Blonde (Alternative Artist or Group of the Year), Cadence Weapon (Rap/Hip-Hop Artist or Group of the Year) and Canailles (SiriusXM Emerging Artist of the Year – French).
