Sarah Thomson: Conrad Black Sex Offer Was A Joke

Thomson was responding to an allegation made by Black's wife, Barbara Amiel, in a recent column for Maclean's.

The woman who accused Rob Ford of grabbing her "ass" is responding to new allegations that she once offered to have sex with Conrad Black in exchange for an interview.

"Around 2002, publisher Thomson offered, using normal scatology, to "bed" my husband in return for him granting an interview to her newspaper. Though the proposition did not intrigue him, Conrad found it very enterprising and endorsed her for mayor in the last election."

Thomson told the Star her jest was prompted by a "whole lot of women ogling" Black at the party.

"So I asked him if I would have to sleep with him to get an interview ... That was it. It was a joke, it was a party, there was nothing to it."

Thomson also took issue with the date Amiel gave for the incident, saying she was busy with other matters in 2002.

Amiel's column, which argued the Steubenville rape case was something less than rape and the result of lax sexual morals today, also attacked recent criticism of Ford and former Harper adviser Tom Flanagan.

Responses on Twitter published with the column were almost universally negative.

As for Black, he did indeed endorse Thomson for mayor in 2010, describing her as a potential "Boris Johnson in drag." Say what you will about the former media baron and convicted criminal, he certainly has a way with words.
