Facebook group fights alleged police brutality

A video of a Vancouver man being punched during an arrest has inspired a new Facebook group to fight against alleged abuse or mistreatment by Vancouver police.

The video, which has now been viewed thousands of times, shows a plain clothes officer punching cyclist Andishae Akhavan in the face while arresting him for allegedly running a red light.

Police allege he was "confrontational" and the police union says that the video "only captures one portion of the incident."

But Akhavan says he did nothing to provoke such a reaction from the officer.

The Facebook page highlights the recent incident and says: "Let it be the first of many stories, pictures and videos documenting the over-use of violence by the force".
