2 dead in head-on crash near Vernon, B.C.

Two people are dead after a pickup truck and a car collided south of Vernon, B.C. on Sunday afternoon.

RCMP say the two vehicles crashed head-on just north of Bailey Road on Highway 97 around 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

A small fire started in one of the vehicles, but was extinguished by one of the police officers who arrived on the scene.

Two other people were also injured. One person was flown to Kelowna Hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries. The second person was driven by ambulance to Kelowna Hospital.

On Sunday afternoon, one southbound lane on Highway 97 was open. Northbound traffic was being rerouted as investigators work to determine the cause of the crash.
