VANCOUVER - A man is in hospital, another in police custody after an unprovoked attack at an outdoor high school basketball court in Vancouver.
Police spokesman Constable Brian Montague says the stabbing occurred when a group of young adults were playing a pick-up basketball game at Templeton Secondary School around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Montague says the stabbing appears to be unprovoked and investigators are trying to determine a possible motive, but it is not believed to be drug- or gang-related.
He says a 23-year-old man was stabbed in the back and arm by a 24-year-old American man who was not part of the game.
The suspect fled the scene and Montague says a police dog was used to track him down.
He says the suspect, Clifton Crowder, is still in custody and will appear in court on Wednesday. He has been charged with attempted murder.
The victim is currently in stable condition in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
