Toronto police say Nisar Hashimi, 23, is in custody and will appear in court Thursday afternoon on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder using a firearm.
On Wednesday, police named Hashimi as a suspect in the killing of Anthony Smith, 21, who died in hospital after he was shot twice in the back of the head outside the Loki Lounge, located on King Street West at Portland Street.
Another man was also shot in the incident but survived. Police have described the shooting as a targeted attack, and Smith was known to them because of a minor charge that was later dropped.
Police said both victims knew each other and had started the night at the club before being shot around 2:40 a.m. ET.
The CBC's Charlsie Agro reported that Loki Lounge had been hosting an event that night, organized by the same promoter of an event at a Brampton, Ont., strip club where shots were fired last month.
Smith was a student at Seneca College. His sister told CBC News that he wanted to become a youth worker.
