Canadians vying for NCAA basketball title

The world's most watched basketball tournament comes down to the final four this weekend with a few Canadians hoping to nab the NCAA championship trophy.

Nik Stauskas, a freshman guard with the Michigan Wolverines, is considered by some to be potentially the best pure shooter in U.S. College basketball. The 19-year-old played some high school basketball at Loyola Catholic Secondary in Mississauga before moving to the U.S. to attend prep school.

His family has made the trip to Atlanta to support him. His father Paul says his son is having a great ride.

"It's a thrill a minute for him," said the elder Stauskas, who coached his son in Grade 10. “He's just walking around with a permanent smile on his face.”

In the other game, the tournament's top seeded Louisville Cardinals will battle the Wichita State Shockers. Taking to the court for Wichita will be two juniors, and best friends, forward Chadrack Lufile, from Burlington, and guard Nick Wiggins, from Toronto.

The CBC's Steven D'Souza reports.
