SURREY, B.C. - A 22-year-old man has been charged in the shooting death of another man on Christmas Eve 2011 in Surrey, B.C.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says Russell Bidesi is accused of second degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Bradley McPherson, who was shot at a house party.

Bidesi was also charged in February with second degree murder in the killing of Kacey Rogers, who was shot in his home a year earlier, but police say there is no connection between the two killings.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound says McPherson was not involved in criminal activity and he was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he was killed.

A statement by McPherson's mother, Susan Simning, says McPherson always wanted to protect people and was doing that the night he was murdered when he stood up to a bully.

She says McPherson was a young, innocent man with good values and his murder has devastated his family and friends.
