HOBBEMA, Alta. - A Mountie from central Alberta has been charged with assault causing bodily harm following a complaint about an arrest.

RCMP in Hobbema say Const. Ron Lavallee was charged after an investigation by a senior member of an independent RCMP unit.

The investigation was prompted by a complaint that excessive force was used during an arrest in January 2012.

Lavallee, a seven-year veteran, is stationed at Hobbema and is on medical leave.

He is to appear in Wetaskiwin provincial court Tuesday.
