Police conducted an annual spring safety blitz on Monday, pulling over commercial vehicles to determine if they were properly maintained.

Toronto police Const. Dal Gill said that officers were on the lookout for anything that could pose problems on the road.

"Our goal is to make sure our roads are safe," he told CBC News in an interview on Monday.

More than 190 commercial vehicles were inspected on Monday, with police pulling nearly half of those vehicles off the road as a result.

Monday's safety blitz involved a handful of police agencies, including officers from Peel, Halton and York regions, as well as South Simcoe, Waterloo and OPP officers.
