Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault said Tuesday that the Canucks hope to have forward Chris Higgins back in time for the playoffs.

Vigneault's update came through the team's Twitter feed. The coach said that both Higgins and defenceman Chris Tanev suffered lower body injuries and won't accompany the team on their upcoming five-game road trip.

Higgins played 18 minutes in the team's 2-0 win over Phoenix on Monday, a night in which the Canucks welcomed back Ryan Kesler after his latest injury.

Higgins has scored 10 goals and five assists in 38 games this season and was signed last week to a four-year contract extension. The deal will reportedly run through 2016-17, with a $2.5 million US cap hit per season.

The Smithtown, N.Y., native missed a handful of games earlier this season due to a back injury.

Vancouver, with a slight lead on Minnesota in the Northwest, next plays Wednesday in Calgary.
