BLACKFALDS, Alta. - CP Rail police investigators are looking into several acts of mischief on the company's line in central Alberta.

In one case, a freight train was forced to make an emergency stop when it hit several stacked metal plates piled on top of the tracks near Blackfalds.

CP spokesman Kevin Hrysak says no one was hurt in what he calls a deliberate criminal act.

Hyrsak says there have been other instances of mischief in the area since the emergency stop March 25.

He is encouraging anyone with information to contact CP Rail or the RCMP.

Hyrsak says whoever is responsible probably doesn't realize how serious the consequences could be.

"This is one incident that did occur that did cause pretty extensive damage to railway equipment and infrastructure," Hyrsak said of the emergency stop.

"Fortunately it did not result in a derailment, but could have had much more serious consequences."
