Manitoba coroner calls inquest into suicide of man at Winnipeg hospital

WINNIPEG - An inquest has been called to examine the suicide of a man who was under the care of a Winnipeg hospital.

James Livingston, who was 68, was in Health Sciences Centre last year where he was diagnosed with dementia and kept from leaving the hospital under the Mental Health Act.

Four days after he failed to hang himself, Livingston was found unconscious in his room with a belt wrapped around his neck.

He was pronounded dead after resuscitation faile.

The inquest will look into preventing a similar death from occurring in the future.
