ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A multimedia campaign aimed at recruiting foster parents in Newfoundland has exceeded expectations.

The provincial government says the campaign — launched in November — has generated 220 inquires from people interested in becoming a foster parent.

Family Services Minister Charlene Johnson says her department has already received 160 applications — and 21 new foster homes have been created.

Johnson says the campaign encourages residents to open their homes to foster children and highlights the need for more foster families.
