HALIFAX - The largest children's hospital in the Maritimes is getting a new emergency generator, six months after power outages forced the IWK Health Centre to operate on limited power.

In October 2012, the hospital in Halifax had to cancel all elective surgeries and non-urgent appointments.

Health Minister David Wilson says a new unit will replace a 35-year-old model

He said the new generator should be installed this summer and should be operating before the end of the year.
