Metrotown re-opens after suspicious package scare

A suspicious package that prompted the evacuation of part of Metrotown Mall Friday turned out not to be a threat.

Police in Burnaby cordoned off and evacuated part of the mall at around 12 p.m. PT after a suspicious package was called in.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Major John Buis said the package was found in the food court, and that area was cleared first.

Just before 1 p.m. police said the package was deemed "not to be a risk."

No further information is available at this time.
