B.C. Liberal Leader Christy Clark came out swinging against New Democrats Leader Adrian Dix's stance on the Kinder Morgan pipeline, calling it a policy "flip flop" during a News 1130 radio segment on Monday.
“Well now he’s got a brand new position on Kinder Morgan that’s different from the one he took a couple of weeks ago, and different one his party has taken on different occasions,” said Clark.
Despite being vocal about his opposition to Enbridge’s proposed Northern Gateway pipeline, Dix has cautiously avoided taking a hard stance against the proposed twinning of the Kinder Morgan pipeline until now.
“Taking a stance against the Kinder Morgan pipeline proposal is a fantastic way for Adrian Dix and the NDP to commemorate Earth Day," said ForestEthics Advocacy tar sands campaign director Ben West in a news release.
Others were dubious of Dix's surprise change of heart.
Vancouver Sun columnist Vaughn Palmer called the timing of Dix's announcement "deliberate and calculated for political effect."
During the radio interview, Clark was also frank with her disappointment about the federal government’s decision to shut down Vancouver’s Kitsilano Coast Guard station.
“That’s our playground. We need the Coast Guard active there. So they made a terrible decision to cut it, I think.”
Clark also answered questions via Twitter after her guest appearance.
