"The time has come,” said Mayor Richard Stewart. "We're going to have to make the investments as a community to try to get additional road width and to put barriers in to prevent these head-on collisions."
Stewart said he would like to see Lougheed Highway widened by a metre-and-a-half.
On Monday, one man was killed and another was airlifted to hospital after an SUV and a pickup truck collided head-on near 240th Street on the Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge.
The crash came just one day after another accident on the same stretch of road. One man was killed and two people were sent to hospital with serious injuries on Sunday.
Last month, another person died when a minivan crossed the centre line as it was heading westbound on Lougheed Highway, approaching the Pitt River Road intersection.
